An origin story of the present-day SINSUKE FUJIEDA GROUP, INFORMEL revisits a live performance recorded in Tokyo during the uncertainty of October 2020. With normal concert activity disrupted, Fujieda returned to jazz as his musical foundation and sought a more direct, intense approach to collective improvisation and composition.
Recorded at LIVE JIROKICHI IN Koenji on October 22nd 2020, the performance was revisited, edited, mixed and newly assembled by Fujieda in 2026. More than an archival reissue , INFORMEL reveals the musical seeds of FUKUSHIMA, tracing the origins of a sound that would only fully emerge years later.
The six extended compositions combine modal and spiritual jazz, chamber-like ensemble detail, non-Western timbres and electronics. The title references Art Informel — a vocabulary of gesture, spontaneity and materiality that also speaks to Fujieda’s approach to improvisation. The original concert included live painting by Taiki Kusakabe, created in dialogue with the music.
