A vivid statement of contemporary Japanese spiritual and modal jazz, FUKUSHIMA brings together the expressive force of saxophone, piano, violin, bass, percussion and drums. Recorded live in the studio by a six-piece ensemble, it connects the atmosphere of classic modal jazz with a distinctly individual sense of melody, space and movement.
The title piece builds through searching piano figures and the group’s expansive interplay. “Float in Oriental Spring” carries a lyrical, Eastern-inflected sensibility; “Silent Night” moves with rhythmic assurance; “Nobody Knows” sets violin against the singing soprano saxophone; and “Perspective” closes the record with concentrated percussive energy.
The current third pressing is distinguished by its black Japanese obi and a premium matte jacket, produced in Japan. The LP presents the five-track vinyl programme.
